The “big teddy bear”
Without a doubt, to know Sammy was to love him! It is often said how someone has a “heart of gold”. In Sammy’s case, that phrase does not do him justice. He was a kind and loving soul who always put the needs of everyone before his own. He was selfless and never wanted his family & friends to worry for him. Even when it looked like he had the entire world on his shoulders, he always answered “no worries!”
Sammy graduated University with a degree in Accountancy but he quickly realized that his true passion was in becoming a chef. He quickly fell in love with that vocation and decided, with Valerie’s support, to follow his dreams in the culinary arts. He was quickly adopted by another family, the Pius Culinary Institute, where his hard work and dedication were very much appreciated. Sammy was now back in school, sacrificing nights and weekends studying in order to become a certified culinary instructor in order to provide a better life for himself and his family. He was truly one-of-a-kind!
No amount of words can ever fully describe who Sammy was and what he meant to everyone.
Pius Chefs mourn one of their own. The chefs from St. Pius X Culinary Institute came together to commemorate one of their fallen brothers. Chef Sammy DiPadre passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2020 at the age of 37. The entire Pius staff was shocked and is mourning the loss of a family member.
In his honour, a special lunch was put together in the Pius dining room where those attending signed a farewell message on Chef Sammy’s jacket. Sammy will always be remembered for his kind, gently calm demeanour. The “big teddy bear” who was always there for everyone and never said “no”. He will be sorely missed by all of us at St Pius X Culinary.
