Secretarial Studies, a DVS program, enables students to use basic and advanced word processing software and software for databases and spreadsheets, as well as software for commercial enterprises. The program provides skills in the production of business correspondence in English and translation of correspondence into French. It teaches the students skills such as proofreading business texts, applying a keyboarding technique, managing administrative information, designing the visual format of documents and using database, basic and advanced functions of word processing and spreadsheet software. Students are also taught basic accounting tasks.
Put Academic Theory into Practice
Secretarial Studies helps students develop the competencies required to be able to work in a bilingual office environment while carrying out secretarial duties. It prepares students to handle clerical functions such as document production and basic accounting.
To be eligible for admission to the Professional Sales program, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
Persons holding a Secondary School Diploma or its recognized equivalent.
Persons who are at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year in which their training is to being and have earned the Secondary IV credits in language of instruction, second language, and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister, or have been granted recognition of equivalent learning.
Persons who are at least 18 years of age upon entry into the program and have the following functional prerequisites: the successful completion of the general development test.
Persons having earned Secondary III credits in language of instruction, second language, and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister and who will continue their general education courses concurrently with their vocational training in order to obtain the credits they are missing.
To develop in the students the competencies required to apply the following principles, rules and methods: integrate harmoniously into the school and work environments; to proofread business texts; to apply a keyboarding technique; to manage administrative information; to understand and identify various management approaches to quality; to manage their time.
